Green Slime Seems To Be Taking Over This Siberian Lake, And No One Knows Why

When it comes to remote, mysterious places, the vast expanse of Siberia might top the list. It seems like not a week goes by without a UFO or cryptid sighting in Siberia. Most of the year, the area is an inhospitable wasteland. But in a few precious months in the summer and fall, it turns into a lush nature preserve.

But just because there’s no snow on the ground doesn’t mean that strange sights and sounds still can’t be found in Siberia. This fall, one lake that’s frequently associated with UFO sightings and other paranormal activity started growing a thick layer of mysterious green slime.

Usually, Lake Baikal is one of the most pristine lakes in the world. In recent months, however, a slime has developed on the water that has researchers feeling baffled.

Those familiar with the lake are blaming a sudden mass death of native sponges for at least some of the slime.

The fast-moving growth isn’t limited to the shoreline. Those investigating the infestation have even found the slime on the floor of the lake.

So what’s killing these sponges and creating the slime? Depending on who you talk to, the answer could be anything from aliens to pollution. Regardless of its cause, I don’t think anyone will be swimming in the lake for a while.

Well, that’s creepy and so, so gross. Mass sponge deaths causing a slime takeover? Yeah, my money is on aliens.
